What is AI visibility measurement?
AI visibility measurement tracks observable appearances of a site or brand in AI search experiences. Define the platform and metric first: a citation, an impression, a referral visit and a completed business action are different observations.
Google Search impressions
Google’s generative AI report covers impressions in AI Overviews and AI Mode, with page, country, date and device views. Property and page aggregation can produce different totals. A new property may have insufficient data; that does not establish zero possible visibility.
Bing citation activity
Bing AI Performance reports citation activity across its supported AI experiences, including Copilot. Its data is aggregated and may omit sparse activity. Bing says these counts do not establish a page’s rank, authority or importance within an answer.
Prompt samples need their own context
If a course uses a sampled prompt tracker, record the prompt set, platform, date and method. Do not treat that sample as a census of all users or combine it with search impressions as if the denominators matched.
What a useful measurement lesson should explain
Look for repeatable collection, named limits and a separation between visibility and outcomes. Compare the measurement curriculum of the linked programmes; a provider naming a metric is not evidence of successful student results.
