Does Google AI search require a different SEO foundation?

Google says its existing SEO fundamentals remain relevant to AI Mode and AI Overviews. It does not require special AI markup or a separate set of technical eligibility rules.

Eligibility still depends on Search

A supporting page must be indexed and eligible for a search snippet. Meeting the requirements does not guarantee crawling, indexing or inclusion.

Understand the measurement limit

Google now documents a separate generative AI performance report for AI Overviews and AI Mode impressions. Those impressions also belong to Web search reporting. Use the report’s stated dimensions and aggregation rules; impressions are not visits or a guaranteed count of individual answers.

Use that distinction when choosing training

Ask whether a course teaches durable search foundations, explains AI-answer behaviour and acknowledges measurement limits. Compare documented curriculum instead of assuming a new label replaces conventional SEO.
